Mission Action Day 2016

I am writing to inform you that our annual Mission Action Day will take place on the last day of Term 1 – Thursday 24 March 2016. Mission Action Day involves a 12km social justice walk in the Gardiner’s Creek East Malvern area.

De La Salle College, along with other Lasallian schools, has a long tradition of generous support of the Missions, especially the De La Salle Missions here in Australia and Papua New Guinea. The De La Salle community raised $104,000 in 2015 which enabled the College to support projects in India, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Cambodia, Sudan and Pakistan. Money is also donated generously to the Sacred Heart Mission and other charitable organisations.

Already, staff and students have begun preparations for our major student fundraising project for the year. Our 2016 target, for the entire College community, is to meet or exceed last year’s $100,000. Later in the term, more information regarding practicalities of the day will be sent home with your son(s). Guest speakers and former students will also be speaking to classes to give them a clearer picture as to the importance and significance of raising money for those so much in need.

To reach our target of $100,000 I would ask your help in encouraging your son(s) to gain as much sponsorship for the walk on Mission Action Day as he can. Mission Action Day gives us all the opportunity to think of the needs of others and to then, as a community, do something practical to help that situation.

I look forward to your support in the lead up to Mission Action Day.
