Term 3 ACC sport is drawing to a conclusion with some sporting seasons already finished.
Term 3 has been a huge success with two premierships so far and a number of other teams competing in finals. In Term 3 the College competes in hockey, table tennis and basketball. Traditionally the College has had success on the basketball courts and this year was no exception, with our Year 10A team going through the season undefeated to win the title. The team played some exceptional basketball throughout the term and were certainly entertaining with a number of players capable of hitting the big three points when it counted. All other teams have been very competitive with our Year 7B team and both Year 8 teams a chance to feature in the finals.
Hockey is going from strength to strength at the College and we are fortunate to have some very skilled hockey coaches at the school who are driving the improvement in this sport. Our Year 9 team won their third title in row in outstanding fashion and our Year 10 team were unlucky to be eliminated in a semi‐final. The Year 7 and 8 teams had some very solid results throughout the season and have also benefited from some clinics run by the MCC Hockey Club. We are looking forward to pressing for a drought breaking senior title in hockey in the coming years.
Table Tennis is also going from strength to strength again with the driving force of some very keen coaches. Our senior team were top of the table for much of the year and were narrowly defeated in games against traditional powerhouses of ACC table tennis late in their season. Our Year 9 and 10 teams had some outstanding results. It is great to see this sport grow at the college.
Next week all roads head to Bundoora Park for the ACC Cross Country Carnival. We believe we will have a strong squad this year and look forward to a targeted top three finish. The under 13 age group is particularly strong and we are confident of an age group win at this level.
Our ACC Swim team training is well underway for 2017 and more swimmers are welcome to join. Please contact Mr Chris Windley at the college for more details regarding this.
The annual ACC sports team photos will be taken on Friday 9 September at the De La Dome, Tiverton Campus.
Students will receive a copy of the schedule early next week. All students who were part of an ACC Team are to bring their sports uniform to school to change into.
Term 4 sports team photos will be taken toward the end of Term 4.
Elias Fernandez recently represented De La Salle College in School Sports Australia’s Victorian Boys U16 Hockey Team at the National Championships in Melbourne 7 to 13 August, claiming the Gold medal to WA (silver) in a 1–0 shoot‐out, after being 1–1 at full time.
Elias was again selected in the Victorian 1st XVI for the second time this year, and played mid field for most of the tournament, becoming 2nd on the goal scoring tally.
It was a great standard of hockey, and a challenging tournament for the Victorian boys.
