Welcome back to our final 2017 term.
Preparation for First Communion is underway with some of our Year 4 and 5 students.
Please note that if there are any students across the College who would like to be involved in Eucharistic preparation you are most welcome to contact me.
Year 8 students explore Jesus The Jew and Religious Art at the NGV
Currently under the leadership of our Religious Education LATL, Mr Chris Church, our Year 8 students are being immersed in a day of cultural study. Their first visit is to the Jewish Museum to explore Jesus in the context of his Judaism.
The boys were intrigued to learn about the teachings, the scrolls, the practice and timeline of the Jewish community that also connected them to the world in which Jesus lived out his mission and purpose. They were able to visit a beautiful synagogue and were exposed to the way in which Jesus would also have prayed during his time on earth, by partaking in an example of a seda meal.
A wonderful juxtaposition was then taken up at the National Gallery of Victoria, where the most expert of guides opened our students eyes and awareness to the biblical stories captured in some of the religious art treasures housed in Melbourne. It was thrilling to observe the engagement of these young people and to listen to their observations about what they saw. Often, once the challenge was offered, their freshness of vision delivered amazing gems of wisdom. What a privileged place for me to be in your sons’ lives!
Our Year 12 Students race towards the finish line
I commend our VCE students to the community in prayer as they prepare for their final examinations. I was once told by a wise friend that our children are given into our care; to teach until they are six, to guide until they are 12 and, from then on – we pray for them!
Parents might like to share the following prayer with their sons who are preparing for VCE and VET exams and finishing their VCAL studies.
be with me now,
as I prepare for my exams.
Thank you for the many talents and gifts you have
given me and for the opportunity of education.
Calm my nerves and anxiety, help me
to remember all that I have studied,
to express it clearly and to answer the questions
the very best that I can.
Holy Spirit, sit with me in my exam
— and always.
In Jesus’ name
Mrs Joan Ferguson
