De La Salle Basketball Club

The winter season competition at the Oakleigh Recreation Centre (ORC) commences on Friday 28 April. Teams can be registered on the ORC website from now on. Do not pay any money to the ORC when registering a team — this cost is covered in the players subscriptions when you register a player to a team. Remember, if you are registering a team under DLS your team name must commence with “DLS”. For example “DLS Chieftains” or “DLS Spartans”.

You can commence registering and paying for players to a team from Monday 27th March. To do this you will need the Team Code and password. You must only register players via the De La Salle Basketball Club website as this is the only location where the correct registration page for the winter season will be found. Registration costs $100 for returning players and $75 for first time players. The DLS Basketball Club singlets are $40. Singlets are all paid for at the time you register. Those wanting new singlets must obtain them from me at the ORC prior to the game on the first night of competition. Stock is held at the ORC.

Cricket

Congratulations to the 1st and 2nd XI cricketers who won titles on Wednesday 22 March. In an amazing day of cricket the 1st XI set a modest 121 in our innings off 35 overs. With some great bowling and inspirational catching we defeated St Joseph’s Geelong for 60. The 2nd’s kept St Bede’s to 108 in their innings and made the runs 3 down. A special thanks to Mr Marty Rhoden and Mr Peter Larsen who guided these teams to their victories.

The ACC has produced a video of our wins on Wednesday. For those that are interested you can view it by following this link.

After 10 years of coaching the 1st’s, Marty told the boys he was stepping down as 1st XI coach. On behalf of the College, I thank him for his contribution to cricket at De La Salle. We can rightly claim to currently be one of if the best cricketing schools in Victoria and much of this is due to Marty’s efforts. Many boys have learnt a great deal over the years under Marty’s tutelage and he will be sorely missed in this role.

Mr Jon Edgar
Director of Sport
