2012 DLS Athletics Carnival

Even though the wind played some havoc in the scoring tent and prevented any record breaking performances, our Centenary DLS Athletics Carnival proved to be a “fine” day for all involved.

The student attendance rates were generally high with a number of homerooms receiving valuable maximum bonus points for 100% attendance.

Participation and friendly competition amongst the students was positive and congratulations to the following Homeroom Teachers for guiding their boys to victory in 2012:

  • 7 Benilde and Ms Desmet
  • 8 Vincent and Mrs Roe
  • 9 Roland and Mr Alexander
  • 10 Benilde and Mr Larsen
  • 11 Jerome and Ms Neil
  • 12 Hegarty and Mr Hogan

The overall 2012 Winning Homeroom will be announced this week once we have calculated the aggregate totals taking into account the absence of some homeroom groups at Years 7, 8 and 10.

Champion Athletes for each Year Level will be announced soon at the first available assembly times for Tiverton and Kinnoull.

A Major College Carnival like Athletics cannot run smoothly without the work of all staff on the day in their particular roles. The crowd was very well informed and entertained all day by Craig Willis (aka Tim Ford) on my best friend, The Mic! Special thanks to all the Music and MMEC Staff who worked tirelessly all day and certainly stepped in superbly to replace some staff who were absent due to PD commitments or illness. All staff who worked on Field Events worked constantly throughout the day and your diligence and patience is much appreciated. The electronic recording program and Carnival Booklets were superbly created by Peppe Di Ciccio and this enabled our Recorders to calculate the final Homeroom scores on the day and provide immediate feedback to the staff and students. Final thanks goes to my Sport Assistants, Simon Brown and Tom Curry. Not only did they really ‘fire’ on the day but did a power of work before and after the Carnival to ensure the overall success of the day.

Our focus now quickly shifts to our preparation for the ACC Athletics Carnivals on Thursday 22 March (Junior Field Events) and Wednesday, 28 March (Main Carnival), both at the new Athletics Complex at Albert Park.

We get an opportunity really soon to see our better athletes perform again at our ACC Athletics Trial Carnival this Tuesday, 6 March at Duncan Mackinnon. Over 100 students will be invited to this Carnival with buses leaving the College at 11.00am. It will be beneficial to our ACC Athletics Squad if all teachers can encourage students in their classes to strive for selection in our Final ACC Team.

2012 is a year for De La Redemption as we hope to compete in Division 2 ACC Athletics for the first and LAST time in the history of our PROUD COLLEGE!
