2013 GO THE TAN Schools Cup
As is now DLS tradition, we entered a Team of Year 11 and 12 students in the GO THE TAN Schools Cup last Friday, 15 February at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne. This was the 3rd consecutive year that DLS has entered a team in this event.
GO THE TAN is a fundraising event and all proceeds go to FARA (Freidreich Ataxia Research Association). Tamara Curran, the daughter of our Year 4 Teacher Tim Curran, suffers from this degenerative neurological disease. Tamara was diagnosed with FA at the age of 14 and she celebrated her 30th Birthday last Sunday. By entering a DLS Team in this event, we continue our support for Tamara and her family in the quest for FARA to find a cure for this debilitating condition.
The students listed below participated in the 3.8km run around The Tan Track of the Royal Botanic Gardens:
Josh Pulvirenti 12D, Jack Hanley 12D, Peter Bradley 12D, Jamie O’Sullivan 12D, Adam Tonkin 12R, Aaron Langenberg 12H, Joel Stewart 12H, Nick Stubbings 12H, Jake Lever 12S, Lewis De Stefanis 12V, Chris Carberry 12J, Carl Herbstreit 12R, George Vlahogiannis 12V, Dom Spicer 12R, Hamish Curtis 12G, Tom Fisher 12M, Liam O’Callaghan 11H, Marcelo Arapis 11H, Luke Torrisi 11R, Jordi Sahely 11D, Quinn De Luca 11S
Congratulations to our top 3 finishers in the Schools Cup event:
Liam O’Callaghan — 11:10 mins
Chris Carberry — 11:16 mins
Aaron Langenberg — 11:47 mins
Hot on the heels of these boys was our Sports Assistant Tom Curry in a very slick time of 15:01 minutes.
Thank you to Nigel Yates who not only drove the bus to and from the venue but ran The Tan in a vastly improved time from 2012!Once again, it was a pleasure to accompany the 21 Senior DLS boys to this event as they all participated so keenly in the fundraising event and were fine ambassadors for De La at such a high profile public event.
We look forward to the 2014 GO THE TAN Schools Cup and continue to hope and pray for Tamara and all the brave sufferers of FA that a cure is never far away.
