ACC First XI Cricket Premiers!

De La Salle has already recorded another ACC Championship in 2014!

Our First XI Cricket Team proved that it is the Best Team in the ACC Competition today with a 3 wicket victory against Salesian at Whitefriars College.

Salesian won the toss and batted first and were restricted to 96 runs from 35 overs after a very disciplined and relentless bowling and fielding performance by De La Salle.

Josh Tyquin was the best of the bowlers with 212 from 6 overs, however, all De La Salle bowlers were both economical and accurate.

With a steady start to our run chase from Josh Tyquin and Noah Korkolis at 015, we quickly slumped to 440 and all of a sudden the winning target of 97 had become miles away.

Our premiership hopes began to fade at 660 with Salesian now full of confidence and the momentum had definitely swung their way and we were faced with a huge challenge.

With Dean Krelle and Elliot Bradley at the crease, we were in desperate need of a strong partnership and these boys delivered. Dean was dismissed for 17 runs from 24 balls and had successfully put De La Salle back into a winning position in a short time.

James Cooke strode to the middle to join Elliot with De La Salle needing 17 runs from the remaining 36 balls. This might sound rather easy but with the ebbs and flows of this match, the pressure was high and great patience and poise was required for a De La Salle victory.

15 balls later, after some fine stroke play and sensible batting from both Elliot and James, De La Salle reached 797 and a sweet victory against a talented and gritty opposition who ensured that our boys had to win the match.

Elliot Bradley finished unbeaten on 18 and this match highlighted the value of having a team that has so much batting depth.

Well done to Marty Rhoden as Coach of the First XI for not only today’s Premiership but his 3rd ACC Senior Cricket Premiership in 5 years. Marty’s passion, enthusiasm and most of the time and effort he puts into Cricket at De La Salle is much appreciated.

Marty has been ably supported by Peter Larsen (2nd XI Coach) all season with training as well as team selection and scoring duty.

Congratulations to our First XI Premiership Team for being crowned the 2014 ACC Senior Division 1 Cricket Champions.
