ACC Sport Schedule — Term 3, Week 9

Please find attached the ACC Sport Schedule for Term 3, Week 9.

With only 5 DLS Teams playing ACC matches last week, we managed just one win, but it was certainly a memorable victory.

Our 9A Basketball Team maintained their undefeated season in the grand final with a 5 point victory against cross town rival St Bernard’s to clinch the ACC premiership. This is the second ACC premiership in three years for some of these boys, after winning the Year 7A Basketball Premiership in 2012.

We are fortunate to have two more ACC teams in ‘The Big Dance’ this Thursday 11 September.

Our Year 8A Basketball Team meet Whitefriars in the grand final at the State Basketball Centre, Wantirna. Our boys suffered their first defeat last Thursday against Whitefriars so we need to turn around a 20 point deficit this Thursday.

Our undefeated Year 7 Hockey Team meet St Bernard’s this Thursday in a HOME final at Hawthorn Malvern Hockey Centre.

DLS Lightning Premiership Season continued last Friday with our Year 9 Homeroom Competition. With the early fog lifting before the first bounce, it was a glorious day for football at TH King Oval. After the Round Robin stages were completed, three homeroom teams had emerged as genuine premiership contenders.

9 Miguel, 9 Benilde and 9 Roland were all undefeated going into the semi finals. Miguel easily accounted for 9 Solomon and after a tight first half, 9 Roland shrugged off Benilde to also record an emphatic win.

This set up a classic grand final between Miguel and Roland and it certainly lived up to expectations. The underdogs Roland jumped out to an early lead but Miguel had evened up the contest by half time. Even though the boys were beginning to feel the effects of their previous matches and the blazing sun, both teams managed to put on a superb display of football on the full length TH King Oval. With relentless running from the likes of Gustin, Northey, Trusler and Monaco, ‘The Mighty Miguel’ just proved too strong towards the end of the match, winning the Year 9 Lightning Premiership by 14 points.

It was very difficult to choose the Best Player on the Ground in the grand final as there were so many good players from both teams.

After much deliberation, the Tom Murphy Medal (2003) was awarded to Aaron Trusler from 9 Miguel.

Congratulations to 9 Miguel and Peppe Di Ciccio — the 2014 Year 9 Lightning Premiership Football Champions!

The season concludes this Monday September 8 with the rescheduled Year 8 Lightning Premiership at TH King Oval.
