Letters to Gallipoli
In this the year of the centenary of war, the College has initiated a number of special events to mark the contributions made, not just by our Old Collegians, but all Australians.
An original production Letters to Gallipoli, created by De La Salle teacher Mrs Mary Finn in conjunction with students, will premiere on Tuesday 16 June at De La Salle College. A co production between the College and Sacre Coeur, Letters to Gallipoli explores an iconic episode of The Great War. The production, which will feature a cast of over 80 Year 7 and 8 students, channels the voices of the men and women of 1915 through contemporary monologues, music and movement.
Mrs Mary Finn, who also directed the production, said the production epitomises the spirit of Gallipoli. She said that spirit is born out of service before self. “The production recognises the sacrifice made by so many, a thread that extends to volunteerism in Australia today.” She said it was fitting that all proceeds from the production will go towards the purchase of a bus to safely transport young children to school at St Therese’s Orphanage Maubara in Timor Leste.
Special thanks to the Department of Veterans’ Affairs for their grant of $2,283 towards the production.
