VCAL — Leading the Way
At De La Salle College we value relationships with our local community.
Year 11 VCAL students have been working with students at Yarraville Special Development School every second Tuesday throughout Semester 1. After meeting with the Principal, Mr Allan Cleland, the students planned a number of projects to improve the resources for the students at Yarraville SDS. The VCAL students have liaised with VCAL Coordinator Mr Tim Hogan to design timber silhouettes in their Technology classes at De La Salle and then worked with the senior group of students at Yarraville creating mosaics that will become a feature of the entrance to Yarraville SDS. The students have further projects to complete throughout next semester, building raised garden beds, designing Giant Jenga blocks and constructing an outdoor storage space for sports equipment at the school.
Feedback from VCAL students:
“During our time at Yarraville SDS, we have also been involved in a range of activities. Some of these activities include: basketball, running, riding the bikes on the bike track and playing on the play equipment. We participated in electives such as P.E., Art and Yoga.”
“Prior to commencing at Yarraville SDS we all felt anxious as we had no idea what to expect. However after we met the students we felt more comfortable and we look forward to going every fortnight.”
