Term 3 has seen the beginning of our basketball, hockey and table tennis seasons. The start of the season has begun well with some encouraging results across the board.
Our basketball teams have begun the season particularly well. The seniors started with some solid wins and our Year 10 team are currently undefeated and on top of the ladder. Year 9 As suffered their first loss of the season last week and the Year 7 and 8 teams have also had great starts to the year. Year 9 student Sean MacDonald recently represented Victoria at the National Carnival which is a great achievement.
Our hockey teams have been competitive across the board and the College is making inroads to strengthening the hockey program at the College. We are fortunate to have some excellent hockey coaches on staff and we are focusing on the junior area of the school. At present both our Year 7 and Year 8 teams are performing extremely well. Year 8 student Elias Fernandez has been selected in the Victorian Junior Vikings training program.
Table Tennis within the ACC has traditionally been dominated by Mazenod College. This year De La Salle has made some modifications to our program in order to bridge the gap and become more competitive. Table Tennis is a great representative sport as many students can find their niche in this non‐mainstream sport. The College will now play all home games in the Performing Arts Centre and we have also purchased 10 new tables to facilitate this move. Regular training sessions have been held and moving forward the College will seek to secure some expert coaching.
Our Weightlifting program has been a huge success in 2015. Mr David Hale and Coach Simon Francazio have prepared the team extremely well. This has resulted in some outstanding results. Most recently we won the Victorian Schools Championship by a large margin. Z Patrick, J Saddington, B Morgan, M Catalfamo, S Gardiner, F McCormack and J Dakdouk all placed 1st in their respective weight classes. R Fenech and N Chatgoglou also had a great competition, finishing in 2nd place in their class. Well done to our Weightlifting Team.
