Sport News

Summer season senior sport concluded last week, with the De La Salle senior teams acquitting themselves extremely well in 2015.

Our 1st XI finished the home and away season in equal 1st position on the ladder, but missed out on a place in the final by an extremely small margin. Despite missing the final it was a great season, highlighted by a win over Whitefriars College (who will contest this week’s final). Congratulations to Mr Marty Rhoden on another fine season as our 1st XI coach and thank you to Elliot Fabris for supporting Mr Rhoden in his role as 1st XI captain.

The 2nd XI cricketers had a mixture of results throughout the season that included some strong wins and narrow losses. They were very competitive all season and some of the Year 11 boys showed great promise for 2016. Thank you to Mr Peter Larsen for his role guiding the 2nd XI.

Our Senior A and Senior B volleyball teams had great seasons. They both placed second in their respective pools behind volleyball powerhouse Mazenod and progressed through to semi-finals. Both sides were very competitive in the finals but unfortunately went down to Whitefriars College. It was a great season from the boys and they should be proud of their efforts this year. Mr David Alexander’s efforts as coach were rewarded by the spirit in which these boys played their matches.

For the first time in a number of years our Senior team progressed through to the finals in 2015. Unfortunately we faced top seeded Mazenod in our semi-final. Despite this we were only narrowly defeated by 7 sets to 5. The tennis team have shown great commitment this season and as a result enjoyed a great season. Mr Luke Kenealy enjoyed working with the team and was impressed by their enthusiasm all year.

2015 Athletics Australia Junior Championships

The College was represented by two students in Sydney recently at the Australian Junior Athletics Championships. Dalton Di Medio (Year 9) competed in the U16 pole vault to finish with a silver medal and Lachlan Menara (Year 9) finished 6th in the triple jump with a personal best of 13.08m. A fantastic effort by both boys and we look forward to their involvement with the ACC Athletics Team next Wednesday.

ACC Athletics 2015

After training for most of Term 1 and competing in both the De La Salle House Athletics Carnival and an ACC Trial Carnival our team will be finalised and announced this Friday. All squad members have been training hard and I congratulate them on their enthusiasm. Unfortunately many boys will miss out on places on the team but I encourage them to keep trying out in future years. The sport of track and field is a great one for boys of all abilities to improve their skills and fitness and I encourage even more boys to join the squad next year. Good luck to those chosen in the final ACC team and we look forward to some outstanding performances.
