St Vincent de Paul Student Group News
Welcome to the first edition of the St Vincent de Paul Student Group Newsletter.
We are a social justice group of Year 11 and 12 students dedicated to the aid of those less fortunate, whether it be fundraising for disaster relief, donating clothes to op shops, or volunteering at food kitchens. The group is led by Mr Graeme Pender and consists of Ben McGaw, Luke Boles De Boer, Raphael Canty, Lachlan Kafer, Elliot Fabris, Jude Joseph, Liam Bisognin, Sri Kumar, Jackson Morgan, Daniel Byrden and Matthew Mattola.
Our goals this year are to reach out to the underprivileged and provide a friendly, helping hand to those who need it. We will be taking a very active role around the College and we aim to achieve a measurable increase in disaster relief donation and provide regular opportunities for volunteer work.
In the span of a few short weeks we have already raised over $1,500 for the Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund thanks to the gold coin donations of students on Founder’s Day, and a lunchtime Sausage Sizzle which we ran at Kinnoull campus.
Current opportunities for students
Currently the St Vincent de Paul society is encouraging all students to volunteer on Tuesday afternoons to aid the Missionaries of Charity, an organisation dedicated to helping homeless people get on their feet. We are also offering study help for students who may be struggling with any subject, on Tuesdays after school in room K211. We also hope to run a sleep‐out at school later in Term 3 to raise money for the homeless in our area.
