ACC Athletics Carnival Champions

On Friday 15 April the ACC Athletics Carnival was held at Lakeside Stadium and I was lucky enough to see our team win the event for the first time in 16 years.

The boys in blue and gold led for much of the day, but the last two aggregate points updates prior to the relays had us only 6 – 8 points ahead of St Bede’s and St Bernard’s.The U 17s and Open boys both won their 4 x 100 relays and we came third in the final event, the 4 x 400, which was enough to give us an 11 point victory over St Bede’s.

Congratulations and thank you to all the competitors, as well as the coaches who have done an enormous amount of work to identify, gather together, train and motivate the many boys who tried out and ultimately competed for the team.

More details regarding students’ highlights and performances will be available in the next edition of Duce. The real highlight for me on the day was the huge buy-in from the boys; their willingness and desire to be a part of representing their school and supporting their team-mates and peers. It was great to see and very promising for the culture of the future. They were thrilled to hear they were the first victorious Athletics Team since 2000 and I’m sure all the Year 7 – 11s will be back next year.
