On Wednesday 10 August Year 7 and 8 hockey squad members were treated to a training session with two coaches from the MCC Hockey Club. Brothers Josh and Jonathan Bretherton have been involved at a high level, representing Australia and attending the Junior Olympics. Both currently play Premier League hockey and we were very lucky to have them with us. The boys had a fantastic time, honing skills and also learning new techniques.

This was a one off session to ‘kick off’ our link with the MCC Hockey Club and we are hoping to have them and/or other coaches soon. Thanks to MCC and all the staff involved in making this happen.

De La Salle Chess Club has been successfully running lunch time sessions for students to learn and develop into Grand Masters of Chess. The team had the opportunity to visit St James College in Bentleigh for an Open Level Chess Tournament run by “ChessKids”, into which we entered two teams, a Tiverton Team and a Kinnoull Team. It was a long day for our chess players, who played seven 30 minute rounds. The day was a success: overall out of 11 teams our Kinnoull Team placed 5th and our Tiverton Team placed 9th. Special mentions go to Ethan Tambimuttu for placing 7th overall (out of 109 students), and the following students for making the Top 50: Jordan Burns, Adrian Loo Yong Kee, Daniel Casula (KIN), Marcus Herman and Thomas McIntyre (TIV).
