Music Notes

Want to be involved in Music?

Are you new to De La Salle? Have you enjoyed singing and playing music in the past? Have you previously been involved in music at De La Salle and haven’t checked the rehearsal times? Come up and speak with us in the Music Department to find out what’s new!

We have kicked off the year with private lessons and ensembles. If you are interested and would like more information please contact Mrs Amanda Wallace by email or telephone 9508 2136.

This year all private music students are required to be involved in an ensemble. The ensemble is likely to be instrument-specific, but could also be the choir, even if you are not learning voice.

There is a bank of evidence that supports the inclusion of ensemble playing in music education. As a soloist, musicians focus on their personal development. When in a group environment the experience extends the learner both musically and socially. Playing and singing together is a wonderful feeling and the good news is that it can begin with just the first five notes.

All students in private lessons will be directed to the ensemble which best matches their skills. Ensemble times are listed below:

Ensemble Venue Time Day Conductor
Senior Concert Band Band Room 8:00am Monday Ms Williams
Intermediate Concert Band Band Room 8:00am Friday Mr Van Bergen
Junior Concert Band Band Room 3:30pm Wednesday Ms Williams
Stage Band Band Room 7:45am Tuesday Mr Lee
String ensemble T722 8:00am Wednesday Mr Reichman
Guitar Ensemble T733 8:00am Thursday Mr Lewin

Saxophone ensemble T725 lunch Friday Ms Sayers

If you are unsure of your level or suitability for an ensemble, come up and chat with Ms Frost in the music office.

Expression of interest: piano lessons

Is your son interested in playing the piano?

We are calling for expressions of interest in piano lessons. There have been several enquiries over the past year and if the numbers are right, the College will launch piano lessons in Term 2. We are looking for a minimum of 8 students before the position will be tenable. Expressions of interest are open until February 24.

Please email Mrs Amanda Wallace ( to express your interest.

Ms Cindy Frost
Music Coordinator
