Sport News
Our first report for 2017 coincides with the start of ACC Senior Fixtures. Our senior boys will be competing in Cricket, Tennis and Volleyball this term.
Cricket
We are particularly looking forward to a strong showing from our cricketers once again and hope they can achieve back-to-back premierships. Our cricketers finished 2016 in great style, winning the Victorian All Schools Shield. Many of the boys from this winning team are joining the College’s first ever international sporting tour during the Term 1 holidays when they travel to Sri Lanka. Whilst in Sri Lanka they will play 7 matches against local colleges including a game against De La Salle College Colombo.
Swimming
Our swimming team is in their final stage of preparation for this year’s ACC Carnival. They are looking to back up last year’s magnificent result and indications are the squad will improve once again after their 2nd placing in 2016. This year’s swim team will be captained by Charlie Aitken (Year 12). Charlie has proved to be an inspirational leader for this group and the example he has set for the younger team members has been tremendous. Our amazing coaching duo of Mr Chris Windley and Mrs Gab Windley will preside over their last carnival, as Chris Windley has accepted a position at St Peter’s in Cranbourne for 2017 and beyond.
Athletics
Athletics training has begun and training numbers have been fantastic. We are building a strong squad and hope to repeat our Division 1 win from 2016. This team will captained by Leon Lymbouris (Year 12) with many of his peers in Year 12 stepping up to help coach our junior athletes. We have also engaged Old Collegian, Mr Kevin Mannix (1987) to work with our middle distance runners. Kevin is an accredited middle distance coach and a very successful ultra-marathon runner. It is great to have Kevin on board in 2017.
AFL
The college has also secured the services of Mr Jason Tutt to work in our football program as Football Development Coach. Jason has played over 60 games of AFL at Western Bulldogs and Carlton and recently joined our Old Collegians Football Club. Jason will be working across all levels of the program helping our coaches and students improve our football program. Click here to read an article about Jason in the Canberra Times.
With these new initiatives we are really looking forward to improving results across the board in our sporting program.
