It has been a successful start to the ACC year with Term 1 teams performing well and our swim team achieving its best performance for a number of years.
The first major sporting event on the ACC calendar was held on the evening of Friday 24 February – the 2017 Swimming Championship at MSAC. Whitefriars College continued their recent dominance, winning their 4th Division 1 title in succession. De La Salle was runner‐up for the second successive year, bridging the winning margin from 62 points in 2016 to 20 points this year. The team looks to be on a sound footing to challenge for the title in 2018.
There were some outstanding performances on the night from De La Salle swimmers, with 10 victories and an impressive 19 second‐placings. Event winners on the night were the U15 Medley and Freestyle Relays, Harry McLean, Morgan Morffew, Campbell Freeman, Angus McLean and Stefan Skarlatos. Congratulations to Campbell Freeman and Angus McLean who were both named in the 2017 ACC Team of Champions.
The continued resurgence of De La Swimming can be gauged by the number of school records broken this season. A staggering 11 school records were broken on ACC night, confirming that the swimming team continues to improve. We look forward to the upward trend continuing in 2018. Congratulations!

The De La Salle Basketball Club’s winter season commences in early Term 2. Now is the time to collaborate with your mates to get a team together for U/12, U/14, U/16 or U/18. To be eligible to play U/14, for example, in the winter season you must not have turned 14 years old before 1 Jan 2017. It does not matter if you have turned 14 on or since 1 Jan 17. The winter season runs in Term 2 and Term 3. Watch the Duce for information about the registration process for players and teams. Please note, registrations are NOT open yet.

The College’s cricket program has become a real beacon of the sporting program here at De La Salle. Last year we won four out of eight ACC premierships, as well as retaining the Br Piggot Shield by defeating St Michael’s Adelaide, and also winning the All Schools Victorian Champions title. Our 1st XI and 2nd XI have started 2017 brightly and both currently sit undefeated and guaranteed of a place in the finals. In three weeks, our first ever overseas cricket tour takes place. Seventeen students and three staff will travel to Sri Lanka for 12 days in which they will play six 50‐over fixtures and one T20. Games will be played at various venues including the international stadiums at Kandy and Galle. We are also looking forward to playing a fixture against De La Salle College, Colombo.
Preparation for our ACC athletics team is well under way and we are confident of a strong performance after winning the title in 2016. Several of our students have qualified for the Nationals in Sydney later this month. Year 11 student Lachlan Menara will compete in the Long Jump and Triple Jump, Liam Halloran in the 800m and 1500m, Dalton Di Medio and Andre Di Medio in the Pole Vault. It’s great to have such a large contingent from De La Salle to represent Victoria. Unfortunately this year the championships coincide with the ACC Athletics Carnival meaning that some of our athletes may be unable to represent the College.
Our senior students have been assisting with coaching the athletics squad this year and are doing a magnificent job. Lachlan Menara has been coaching our jumpers, Jordan Brasher and Ulysses Urban, our throwers, and Athletics Captain Leon Lymbouris has been busy with our sprinters. It has been great to witness the senior boys showing leadership and providing positive role models for the younger students involved in the Athletics squad.
House Athletics is this Friday 10 March, at Albert Park Athletics Track. Students are expected to arrive at 8.40am and finish approximately at 3:00pm. All students need to bring their student card in order to scan their attendance on arrival. We look forward to another wonderful house carnival with quality competition and great house spirit.
