Our Giving Trees

On each campus, there is a giving tree under which students and their families are invited to leave a gift for a young person this Christmas. If you have not had a chance, there is still time before next Thursday.

Advent commences next Sunday and, in this holy season, we are reminded of the needs of those who are not blessed as we might be. We might recall how Mary risked herself to say yes to God; how she reached out to help her cousin and how, like so many refugees, she undertook an arduous journey, giving life to Jesus in humble circumstances.

The nativity stories include images of poverty, desperation, confusion and even violence. They speak to people who are familiar with hardship and insecurity, people who have experienced the dark side of life. They remind us that God works in the gritty reality of our lives. God offers light to those who walk in darkness and he invites us to be the carriers of that light!

I take this opportunity to wish all our families a blessed and joyous celebration of the Lord’s renewed presence into our lives.
