Year 11 Psychology Guest Speaker

Year 11 Psychology students were lucky enough to have Dr Catherine Wilmott from Monash University come and speak with them about head injury and recent research being conducted in conjunction with the AFL in head injury prevention.

Students have been studying brain trauma and plasticity, so our guest speaker has been able to provide students with some real-life evidence to assist with their studies!

Year 10 Dance and Social

Over a six-week period, the students of Star of the Sea College and De La Salle College participated in a ballroom dancing program. The aim of the activity was to enjoy learning several different dance routines whilst getting to know people from other schools. In the muggy, hot Star of the Sea Gymnasium, we were instructed by ever-so-helpful and patient Terry and the rest of his dance team, as we did our best to learn all of our dance routines by 14 March.

After weeks of practice, the night finally arrived. The students of De La and Star of the Sea headed out to the De La Gymnasium for a night of dancing. The evening began with socialising, followed by the student favourite “fireball”, a funky line dance. The night’s festivities then proceeded to the students performing various different ballroom dances that we had learnt over the past six weeks.

At 8 o’clock we took a break from dancing to have a drink and a catch up with each other. During this time, entertainment was provided from instructor Terry and his daughter, who carried out multiple exciting dance routines. Music was also performed by De La Salle’s own ‘Toorak Boys’, a Year 10 band.

Preceding the break, we hit the floor for another hour of dancing. Students were excited to find out that the next 60 minutes were going to predominately involve many bush style line dances, which are both fun and easy to do. As the clock hit 9pm the night was over, and it was truly one to remember.

The Year 10 students from both De La Salle College, as well as Star of the Sea College, would like to thank Mrs Joy Bew, Terry and the dance team for showing great helpfulness over the whole program and enabling to make it enjoyable for everybody. We would also like to thank the staff from De La Salle College and Star of the Sea College for supervising our rehearsals every week.
