Year 12 VCAL Enterprise – Communities Environmental Program

During Semester 1 2021, the Year 12 VCAL Enterprise class worked hard to create a new garden space on the Kinnoull Campus. This garden project was part of the Communities Environmental Program funded by the Commonwealth of Australia — Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources and sponsored by Dr Katie Allen MP, Federal Member for Higgins. The intention of the garden was to create a native habitat to attract a range of local native animals. It also allows the De La Salle College community to reduce our carbon footprint and increase sustainability.

The project involved students working each Friday clearing invasive weeds, setting posts for retaining walls and a decorative timber fence, selecting and planting native plants, and mulching the entire area.

During the project, the students were visited by Dr Katie Allen MP, and Assistant Minister for Waste Reduction and Environmental Management, Trevor Evans MP where they proudly displayed their progress and answered questions about the project.

The garden was completed in the first week of Term 3.  An official opening will be held once lockdown restrictions ease.
