THE DUCE NEWSLETTER ISSUE 1

11 FEBRUARY 2021

The Principal's Report

Welcome back for the 2021 academic year and welcome to our new-look Duce, the first of our regular fortnightly newsletters for the year. I would also like to extend a special welcome to all the new families joining our wonderful De La Salle community for the very first time. It has been terrific to see the students and staff begin the year in such a positive mindset, grateful for the return to normality after 2020 and already embracing the many opportunities on offer here.

As we move into our 109th year there is much to be grateful for and much to look forward to this year. I am a firm believer in the power of positive thinking and optimism; always having something to look forward to is an excellent tonic. We are coming off some of our best VCE results in 10 -12 years, significant refurbishments have been completed in time for our return (including a brand new gym/weights/cardio facility) and a great deal has been learned from 2020, which is already being put into place for this year.

I’ve really enjoyed the opportunities to meet with both students and parents in the first two weeks, hearing about their hopes, plans and goals for 2021 but also to share a little of what I have in mind for the College this year. Our outstanding work supporting students, families and staff through the challenges of 2020 in all areas of the school has set us up very well for ongoing innovation, improvement and growth in 2021.

At the very core of what we stand for as a Catholic school in the Lasallian tradition is the simple, shared responsibility to be good people, developing great young men. The growth from 2020 and the strategies and programs in place for 2021 are designed to continue this tradition for the benefit of all in our community.
