Surviving Lockdown…Sort Of

In times when we have little control over decisions we make, it becomes increasingly easy to try and control the minutiae of our daily lives. This can be a double-edged sword. Too much control leads to the possibility of increased anxiety, when, inevitably, something happens that we don’t expect. It can throw us off the very narrow path that we have decided to try and walk.

It’s an often-repeated phrase over the course of 6 lockdowns, that we should “try and control what we can control”, and while this can be excellent advice in moderation, an excess of control will usually end up being counter-productive. This phrase also doesn’t tell us what we can do when things happen that we can’t control.
