Sports Report

During this extended lockdown, it is natural to feel “boxed-in” by the four walls at home. It is important to exercise through these times to ensure you are keeping mentally and physically healthy.

There are vast benefits of keeping active including boosting endorphins and triggering a “runner’s high”. Endorphins are chemicals released by the body to relieve stress and pain. On top of the mental aspect, exercise is great for weight control, lowering cholesterol levels and improving self-image.

Although normally we can go the gym and work on the machines, at home it can be difficult to complete the usual activities due to scarcity of resources. It can seem impossible to complete exercise without the equipment. However, there are many things we can do such as;

  • If you like HIIT work outs, set up a mini circuit at the local park or your backyard. This can include exercises such as: jump squats, planks, alternative lunges, push ups, mountain climbers, crunches, flutter kicks, etc. By doing 8 exercises of 30 seconds each with a 15 second rest in three or four sets, it can be a great workout with no equipment needed.
  • Other ways to get in some quick easy exercise is walking, running or bike riding daily.
These little groups of activities each day can go a long way to break up the day and get you out of the house for a little while.
