The Principal's Report
With lockdown 5.0 finishing last week, it was terrific to see the students’ welcome return to onsite learning go so smoothly. Admittedly, I was not surprised as De La Salle students have already proven several times, they are very capable when asked to adjust to these seemingly ever-changing conditions.

In visiting classes and speaking to students from various Year Levels on Friday, I was very pleased and indeed a little relieved to hear from many of the students just how well they had coped during the latest round of remote learning. They felt well supported by staff but were very glad to be back onsite with their friends, articulating just how important that was to their levels of happiness and engagement with learning.

Monday’s Staff Professional Learning afternoon focused firstly on the collation and analysis of all students’ Semester One data from various assessments and Work Habits. For most Year Levels this data can be compared to their results across the five domains of the Allwell Testing (Verbal and Non-verbal Reasoning, Maths, Reading and Writing). We can then measure how we’ve value-added to students’ progression over a two-year period. For example, this year’s Year 10s have demonstrated visible academic growth from their last Allwell Testing in Year 8 2019. This data analysis is then used to inform teaching individual classes and students for the remainder of 2021. We can also analyse students’ progression – if its below standard we can intervene and use the data to differentiate in an individual student’s learning. It can also be used to acknowledge, affirm and further push those students whose performance/progression is higher than expected.

Monday afternoon also saw the first session of the Kennedy Club High Performance squad for football. Our Director of Football, Mick Stinear, took the squad through their first skills session, which the Year 7 & 8s loved – and learned a great deal!
