THE DUCE NEWSLETTER ISSUE 11

5 AUGUST 2021

Kinnoull Campus
Year 10 - 12

Although we still find ourselves ‘adapting’ and ‘pivoting’ to the omnipresent coronavirus, students should be commended for the way in which they continue to respond positively to the various challenges the past 18 months have presented. In transitioning back to onsite learning, many students genuinely expressed gratitude to be back with their friends. Reflecting upon their remote learning experiences with the wellbeing staff, students told us that it’s the absence of connection with their friends that they miss the most during remote learning. The Kinnoull wellbeing staff listened and supported students and their wellbeing needs since returning from the recent lockdown. If you have any concerns regarding your son’s wellbeing, please reach out to his Mentor in the first instance.

Students and their parents/guardians recently attended an online VCE/VCAL Information Evening. The event provided students with information that will enable them to choose a VCE/VCAL pathway that is tailored to his individual needs. In the coming weeks, each student will be working towards completing his ‘Shape Your Destiny’ subject choices activities during GROW periods. The process will provide each student with the information needed to support their subject selections for 2022.

The wellbeing GROW program continues to provide our students with the tools and knowledge to support their wellbeing:
  • Year 10 and 12 student workshops focused on the topics of Intimacy and Consent. With Mentor support, students discussed these topics in a safe and supportive environment.
  • Year 11 students participated in their second ‘Big Brother/Buddy’ session with the Year 7 students this week. The senior students enjoyed the opportunity to engage with the Year 7’s on the Kinnoull Campus.
I commend the students who nominated for the important roles 2022 College Captain and Vice Captains. The selection process will continue in the coming weeks with an announcement of the successful candidates made to the community on Tuesday 11 August.
