The Principal's Report

After almost two years of careful management it was a little disappointing, but probably inevitable, we recorded our first two cases of COVID-19 on site last week. The details, response and management have all been communicated to all families by letter and we have no more students or staff test positive as a result. All our students and staff connected with the two cases have tested negative and under the new guidelines, have returned to school.

The key message coming out of our experience last week was that our systems, processes, plans and people stood up perfectly well to the challenges the news brought. Working in consultation with Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools, the appropriate decisions, action and communication rolled out smoothly and efficiently. I am very grateful for the diligence and care demonstrated by our Education Support staff who managed most of the logistics.

On Thursday our graduating cohort of Year 12s returned to school for a final Celebration Day. Largely organised by the Student Leaders, about 95% of the students returned, in full school uniform (at their insistence, as distinct from dressing up) for a catered breakfast, House Assemblies and Farewells, a formal Year 12 Assembly where each was presented with gifts from the College, then a BBQ lunch. While not as formal and grand as other years, it was a terrific morning, greatly appreciated by the students and a lovely memory to take away on their final day in the blue and gold blazer. We wish them well as they relax for a while and await the results on 16 December.

It has been gratifying in recent weeks to see the outstanding care, support and attention to detail in supporting all students with the COVID-19 case, Transition and HeadStart for 2022 classes and ensuring our Lasallian theme of “working together and by association” is visible. Its the seeing of what it means to be Lasallian that people seek to find their place and to be able to contribute to the true nature of our work at De La Salle.
