ACC Debating and Public Speaking
On Monday 8 November, students in Years 7 and 8 represented De La Salle in the ACC Junior Debating and Public Speaking Competition. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the competition took place online using Zoom.
The students involved in Debating were Archie Philpot, Xavier Jones, Indie Chrystie, Christian Petrides, Ned Lovegrove and Jono Burkitt.
Public Speakers were Matthew Hayes, Lincoln Patten, Alex Pearse and Luca Yannas
Chosen and nominated topics included: banning smoking in public places, the need for climate action, parent access to their child’s social media accounts, current housing affordability, COVID-19 vaccinations and testing on animals. The students involved demonstrated great commitment and dedication in their preparation and all topics were tackled brilliantly. Each speaker presented strongly and with flair.
Both De La Salle teams finished top three, with the Public Speakers coming in second and the Debaters in third place. Both groups were in Division 1.
We congratulate all involved and warmly welcome any student who would like to become involved next year.
