Holy Eucharist Campus
Year 9

A key focus of the Year 9 Program at Holy Eucharist is building independence.

For some, the way teachers at Holy Eucharist provide information pertaining to student learning, assessment and the day to day operation might take getting used to. Correspondence directly to them impresses the importance of regularly checking communication on digital platforms and ensures they are in the drivers-seat of their schooling. In time, this provides students with an increased agency over their learning.

In a survey of over 300 former Holy Eucharist students, a key achievement of the Year 9 program was identified as “a greater independence toward approach to schooling”.

Sometimes, as frustrating as what it may be, a teacher answering a question with a question leads students to think for themselves and allows them to ascertain how to best obtain the information.
As a key stakeholder in your son’s education the challenge at Year 9 is to (at times) step-back in order to support the growth of independence. Here, as parents and care givers you are empowering your son to take an increased responsibility over his learning and build this critical self-sufficiency.

This shift from boy psychology to young man psychology, whilst heart-wrenching for some, will ultimately equip him with a skill-set for future years of schooling and life in a truly globalised world.
