The Principal's Report

Welcome back to what promises to be an exciting, engaging and fulfilling 2022 at De La Salle College! A special welcome to all new families joining our Lasallian family this year, its terrific to have you all here. I’m sure you’ll very quickly recognise and embrace the wonderful community to which you now belong.

While we are all navigating the current Omicron situation, taking our RATs, isolating when required and generally observing a CovidSafe return to school, it has been refreshing to be back onsite and get our new academic year off to a very smooth start. The various restrictions have of course required a degree of flexibility as we reorganise, restructure or reschedule a range of events and activities. However, all in the community have been very cooperative and accepting, taking it all in their stride and just getting on with the business of Term 1. I believe this is a positive extension of how well we handled the challenges of 2020-21, dealing effectively with the rigours and demands COVID-19 presented for all schools. We are looking forward to a full year of onsite learning in 2022, supporting, engaging, challenging and extending students of all abilities.

Our 2021 VCE results were outstanding, with the data ranking us fourth among all Catholic boys’ schools in Victoria. This is a significant achievement. The number of students attaining an ATAR of 90+ increased by 41% in one year, and the 10.3% of Study Scores of 40 and above was well above many “like” schools, continuing a five-year upward trend.

The key message in this success story is that De La Salle students can – and do – achieve great things, supported by caring and talented teachers and support staff. When adopting the right attitude, working together and building self-belief, De La Salle has once again proven we are a school for all.

I look forward to another tremendous year in 2022.
