Parent’s Associations looking back
Our Parent’s Associations have had different names, and different focuses, over the years. Along with fundraising, the main mission has been to create a welcoming social connection for families, staff and students.

1950 Blue & Gold had the first photo of the Mother’s Auxiliary, but the association had been operating since 1939. In 1950 they report a membership of 220, monthly card and social afternoons, fundraising dances and a bazaar. The 1961 committee report entertaining the boys of the football teams from Kilmore with High Tea, selling sweets and drinks at Sports Day, and providing breakfast after the ordination of two Old Collegians. The most wonderful hats and coats (some fur!) were worn for the school magazine photos.

By the mid-2000s the Father’s and Mother’s Auxiliaries came together as the Parent’s Association. Social gatherings included Wine Nights, Mothers’ Weekends and Father-Son Weekends away, along with a supper after Mass celebrating the De La Salle Brothers Centenary in Australia. By 2020 the name had again changed to De La Salle College Parent Network with the “aim to encourage a sense of community…by providing opportunities for parents to socialise, connect and participate in College activities” (Blue & Gold 2020 p51). The biggest change to meetings, of course, was moving to Zoom allowing parents from all sections of the College to participate. Functions included a social evening on Kinnoull Oval and Year 9 BBQ and Mass on Holy Eucharist Campus before COVID-19 put a stop to events for the year.
