From the Archives

Working as an archivist means each day brings something new. There’s always cataloguing of donations or new records to be done – that’s one of the never ending jobs – but we also get to take care of a wide variety of items. Photographs, copies of publications such as the Blue and Gold, and trophies make up the bulk of our collection, but we also get to care for special moments in the College’s history.
In the archives room on Tiverton Campus, I have the framed production t-shirt from the 1998 Rock Eisteddfod on display. Rock Eisteddfod’s are an event which takes place outside of the usual school co-curricular program and participants learn many lessons which they take into their lives beyond their school years. During the 1990’s, Mrs Mary Finn led the students through many Rock Eisteddfods which involved parents, staff from multiple departments, and students – performers, stage crew, set designers and builders, cooks – working together to produce an artwork which reflected the Lasallian ethos.

I have included pages from the 1998 and 2008 Blue and Gold’s which tell the story of how the arts departments developed at the College, resulting in students being invited to perform on TV productions, at the Logie Awards night, and working with students from Ashwood School. I hope the young men involved in these, and all the Rock Eisteddfod’s over the years, enjoy reminiscing on their involvement and the impact this had on their lives and those around them.
