Identity and Mission
On Friday 13 May we will be marking Founder’s Day to celebrate the life of St John Baptist de La Salle. Born in France to a wealthy family, he decided to become a priest. St John Baptist de La Salle was moved to help the poor and formed a community of Brothers known today as the De La Salle Brother of the “Brothers of the Christian Schools”. He is also the Patron saint of teachers.

Formally, the Catholic Church celebrates his feast day on 7 April but many Lasallians choose to honor him on 15 May, known as “Founder’s Day”.

Next week our Year 8 students will be participating in their Reflection Days. Reflection Days are a part of the Religious Education Program of the College and together with his Religious Education Teacher, students will be participating in a well-planned, engaging and reflective program. At the heart of the College's mission is to develop and grow the faith and spirituality of the students. The Year 8 Reflection Day is compulsory and the theme of the day is “the Sower and the Seed” to reflect opportunities students face as they grow into greater levels of freedom and responsibility in their own lives. The day is intended to be lively, vibrant and engaging as well as, give the students an opportunity to get to know one another.

Year 11 and 12 VCAL – Social Justice Fundraiser
|
The Year 11 and 12 VCAL students, as part of their R.E. studies and linking to the Catholic Social Teachings of the church, are working to hold a fundraising event for Breast Cancer Network Australia.
|
In Australia on average 55 people per day will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Many of us will know someone who has been touched by the disease, including one of our own staff members, Dave Murray’s wife.
|
At lunchtime on Thursday 19 May, Dave will be shaving off his iconic beard in support of the Breast Cancer Network Australia.

The students have organised a variety of ways to support the cause and cheer Dave on:

- Buy pink themed food or drink on the day of the shave
|
- Buy a ticket in the raffle
