Sports Report

In what was an outstanding Term 2 for De La Salle sport, we won three premierships from five grand finals.

The first XVIII footballers have won their first grand final since 2008 defeating St Joseph's Ferntree Gully 13.8 (86) to 8.5 (53). Luke Lloyd kicked 7 goals in a magnificent performance and coaches Michael Barlow, Brett Deledio, Jon Edgar and myself were super impressed with the intercept and run game, especially off half back. Angus Sutherland was a standout performer as was Denzell Prezens, Luke Lyngberg, Luke Healy and Ethan Macbeth played a superb game in the middle. Well done to all players and coaches!

The soccer team were under the pump early going down 1-0 after 1 minute and after Emmanuel scored to go 2-0 up, were constantly chasing the game. To their credit, they battled all day, eventually going down 3-2. Congratulations to Peppe Di Ciccio and all the senior soccer players for (what was again) a brilliant year.

Year 9A footy led by Matthew Jones lost to St Joseph's Ferntree Gully by 10 points at Wally Tew Reserve in Ferntree Gully. The final score was 8.6 (54) to 9.8 (64) with Brody Rossney kicking 3, Aidan Stewart and Sam Chapman kicking 2 and James Orton 1. Well done to all Year 9's on a fantastic season and thanks to Matthew Jones for such a professional coaching performance.
Year 9A Footy
Both Year 8A soccer and Year 8B football won their respective games and secured premierships from second spot. The blue and gold performed on the big stage with the soccer players winning 5-0 and the footballers winning by 1 point. In what was a blustery day for soccer, Charlie Welling scored 2 goals, Alex Hatzis, captain Cian O'Flynn and a wonder strike from Dom Puopolo, the soccer team controlled the game from the outset and never looked troubled. Well done to Peter Crellin with special thanks to Susan Kiernan. Martin Gibbs (with special thanks to Roger Grech) soldiered on in windy conditions at Whitefriars to win the flag by the barest of margins. Raph Gauci kicked 2, Bello Yacin and Matthew Heaney kicked a last quarter major to secure a memorable victory away from home. Well done lads!
