The Principal's Report
Welcome back for what has been a smooth and busy, if a little cold, beginning to Term 3. As we are now into the fourth week of Semester Two, studies in the new semester’s courses are well and truly underway. With reference to the Semester One reports and the upcoming 2023 subject selection process, it is vital our students reflect on their academic progress and take the appropriate measures to maximise their performance. As ever, De La Salle staff are ready, willing and able to support our students in this crucial stage.

You will be aware the Department of Health is asking students eight years and over and staff to resume wearing masks in the classroom. This is a request, not a mandate, but as the letter said, its part of the collective effort to protect students and staff from various infections and keep us all at school.

We have been delighted with the tremendous response to our inaugural De La Salle Mothers’ Lunch at Kooyong Tennis Club on 12 August. Very strong interest has resulted in us needing to expand numbers weekly, with over 190 tickets already sold. In a similar vein, I am thrilled with the tremendous response to our Books and Blokes Breakfast, with over 150 locked in for next Tuesday. This annual event has been a great vehicle in promoting reading among our young men – which I am always keen to encourage!

It was heartening to witness at the recent Catholic Secondary Principals of Australia conference the positive messages around strategy and vision for the future of Catholic schools. In addition to faith formation and ongoing development in contemporary Religious Education, the focus remains very much on promoting attitudes to support truth, justice, tolerance and being non-judgmental and overall improved outcomes for all students.
