Music Report

Every winter, the De La Salle Music Department takes the show on the road and performs to schools in a different area of regional Victoria. Last week 58 musicians and 6 staff completed a highly successful concert tour of the Murray Region in and around Swan Hill.

Delivering an action packed hour long concert show hosted by the students themselves, performances were delivered at the following schools:

- Mary Mackillop College
- Swan Hill Primary
- Swan Hill Specialist School
- Lake Boga Primary
- St Joseph’s Primary Kerang
- St Mary’s Primary Swan Hill

All concerts were unique and special occasions, met with rapt attention and fulsome applause to items such as the Brass Ensemble, Vocal Ensemble, the Concert Band, Year 9 Band and Saxophone and Guitar Ensembles.

The energy in the room typically spiked when the Stage Band and Year 12 Rock Band performed towards the end of the concert, with spontaneous solo dancing from the children in the audience and even a few conga lines involving all and sundry.

The final concert at St Mary’s was notable for the size of the audience. Performing in a large basketball stadium, the De La Salle musicians performed with great confidence to a crowd of over 600 students.

In between concerts, there was time for a little exploration of the towns of Swan Hill and Kerang, a visit to the excellent Pioneer Settlement Centre and an amazing light and sound show. Jaymee Lee’s famous Music Tour Quiz was finally won by the teachers’ table (somehow they were penalised 10 points to come third), and Daniel Tedford led a superb hours long singalong by the bonfire at the campsite.

The students are to be commended for their excellent performances, spirit and behaviour on the Music Tour.
