Where Are They Now

Congratulations to Matt Tyquin (2017) and Miles Allinson (1999) on their recent achievements which were profiled on our social media channels.
Matt Tyquin (2017) was named ‘2022 World Champion Butcher Apprentice’ in the recent World Champion Butcher Apprentice and Young Butcher competition in Sacramento, California.

As the first Australian to ever win the Award, Matt had two and a half hours to cut and break down beef, lamb, pork and chicken, value add and create an innovative display using the cuts provided whilst being judged on creativity, hygiene, safety, innovation and speed.

Prior to taking up butchering as a trade, Matt studied Biomedicine at Monash but realised that the laboratory wasn’t for him. Having worked part-time for about seven years at Ashburton Meats, Matt then took on an apprenticeship to become a butcher, it obviously was a good decision.
