From the Archives
As students began Head Start activities last week, I was invited to the Holy Eucharist Campus to introduce the 2023 Year 9 students to the men after whom their Mentor Groups are named. When Holy Eucharist first opened it was decided to use the names of notable Brothers who had very strong ties with the College historically, to be remembered in this way. Seven names were chosen with six currently in use and an extra name to allow for expansion of the student population.

These extraordinary men are:
|
Br Peter Duffy – a member of the teaching staff from 1920, went on to be Principal from 1946 – 1952.
|
Br Fridolin Blackwell – Headmaster in the early 1920s who worked closely with Br Peter Duffy, who returned to teach again in the 1930s.
|
Br James Taylor – staff member from 1974, Principal from 1978 – 1988, and after whom the Gymnasium on Tiverton Campus was named, for his work in developing the sporting programs.
|
Br Gerard Rummery – long serving staff member between 1951 and 1964. He is remembered for bringing a high level of success with students involved in Music, Languages and Literature.
|
Br Stanislaus Carmody – another long serving staff member, starting in 1941, to becoming a well respected and admired Principal from 1959 – 1963. The Carmody Arts & Technology building opened in 1987 on Tiverton Campus.
|
Br Calixtus Cusack – a teacher for 11 years, then Principal. Involved in sports and described as “cultured and versatile”.
|
Br Dunstan Drumm – one of the three founding Brothers of the school, who was a visionary during the early growth of the school population, and set the tone for the culture of the school to follow.
|
It was a delight to shed a little light on these important figures in the College’s history. I look forward to many more opportunities to bring our history into the present through sharing our school archives during 2023. Have a very Merry Christmas!
