Music Report

The 2022 Music Program performance season concluded with two wonderful occasions; the Semester 2 Junior Concert and the annual Christmas Concert.

Junior Concert, Wednesday 30 November
Students in the Year 5 class performed a number of pieces on violin, cello and ukulele, both in their separate classes and together. It is remarkable the progress that they have made in such a short time since their classes commenced in July.

The Year 5 classes were followed by the Junior String Ensemble, who are fast becoming seasoned performers, well accustomed to the limelight.

The prize for best Year 7 class band in Semester 2 (and pizza lunch) went to 7 Roland, conducted by Jaymee Lee. 7 Hegarty also performed very capably.

The junior students (and the capacity audience) were also treated to a fine brace of grunge rock renditions by a senior student-run rock band, featuring Seb Hall (drums), Wesley Kim (vocals), Spencer Davey (guitar) and Taj Davey (bass guitar).

All in all, a wonderfully enjoyable night; the first of many performances for a number of fine novice musicians we discovered this semester.

Christmas Concert, Tuesday 6 December
Another capacity audience saw all College ensembles let their hair down, don the festive colours but keep their usual high musical standards up for the annual Christmas Concert.

Suavely hosted by 2023 Music Captain, Orlando Wong, and Vice Captain, Ronan Lew, the concert featured numerous highlights and delightful performances, including Jonathan Paola’s standout vocal lead performance of O Holy Night.

The new Junior Concert Band were also very accomplished in their performance, as were – yet again - the Junior Strings.

It was delight to celebrate once more the music leaders from the graduating Class of 2022, including departing Music Captain, Abraham Pearce, and Vice Captain, Daniel Van Den Berg.

The Music Department wishes to thank the College community for their support of the Music program – together we bring positive outcomes for the De La Salle students, which bring not only musical benefits, but immeasurable benefits to wellbeing, social connection and broader academic progress. We wish you a Merry Christmas and look forward to another wonderful year of music making in 2023.
