Sports Report

“Do you know what my favourite part of the game is? The opportunity to play.”
Mike Singletary - former NFL coach

This quote identifies the opportunity sport gives us to not only grow and develop through sport but also to 'play'. At De La Salle College, students get involved in sport through their participation in the ACC Sport program and internal sporting activities. As a member of the ACC, De La Salle competes against other Catholic Colleges in a mid-week competition.
The ACC Senior Cricket season got off to an early start with a practice match against Xavier College on 24 January in a 50-over per side game.

1st XI Cricket
Xavier batted first making an imposing total of 9/202. From their 10-over allotments, the wicket takers were Will McCormack 3/35, Angus Gill 1/45, Henry Docherty 3/32 and Jack Ryan 2/25. Brilliant catches were taken by Ben Ley (2 – wicketkeeper), Luke Healy (1st slip) and Jack Ryan (gully).
Rain intervened before the match could be finished and unfortunately prevented what was building to an exciting climax. De La Salle were 6/155 after 45 overs and were rattling home on the back of an exciting and quickfire undefeated partnership between Jack Ryan (15 not out) and Joey Fisicaro (13 not out off 6 balls including a 4 and a 6 off consecutive balls). Earlier Lachie Grey top-scored with 42 and had solid partnerships with Will McCormack (14 runs) and Zane Maillard (16 runs).
This was an outstanding performance by the De La Salle team against some powerful opposition and the team is to be congratulated on this achievement.

2nd XI Cricket
The 2nd XI played well scoring 136 off our 20 overs on a very difficult wicket, Liam Stacey started well making 27 whilst opening the innings and he was well supported by a big hitting Luke Lloyd and a composed Nathan Kenny down the order. We bowled well as a team but were unfortunate that we were not able to get the breakthrough we needed late in the innings allowing St Bede’s best batter to score a late innings 50 to take the game away from us.
Final result: DLS 9/136 def by St Bede’s 4/138

Tennis
On a cold, windy day, DLS persevered to win against Emmanuel at Emmanuel. Conditions made tennis difficult, so patience and careful placement of the ball were key. Many games were extremely close and matches were hard fought by a team of dedicated players.
Final result DLS 8 sets 79 games def Emmanuel 4 sets 51 games.

Volleyball
The Senior A & B volleyball sides were filled with enthusiasm with a short lead into the first games of the season against Simonds College. Whilst valiant and displaying commitment to the cause the teams were unable to claim a victory over a very competitive side. The team now looks to their next match against Whitefriars.
Final Results: Senior A DLS 0 sets 45 games defeated by Simonds 3 sets 75 games. Senior B DLS 0 sets 51 games defeated by Simonds 3 sets 75 games

ACC Swimming and Athletics
ACC Swimming and Athletics programs have recommenced this school year and programs are open to all De La Salle students. Participation across all year levels is strongly encouraged regardless of students' ability levels.
