Year 10 Applied Mathematics Excursion
Twenty six students across two Year 10 Applied Mathematics classes spent Monday 24 October in the CBD following a maths trail stretching from Melbourne Central to the Floral Clock. Along the way they completed various maths calculations and developed a greater understanding of the variety of ways maths is used in the everyday life.
|
Students visited The Shrine of Remembrance and took part in a guided tour, which explained the history of The Shrine and highlighted how maths was used in the initial design. A highlight was learning about the thirty pages of calculations required to allow the sun’s rays to shine on the Stone of Remembrance at 11:00am on 11 November each year and the adjustments required upon the introduction of daylight savings.

After two years of cancellations due to COVID-19, it was wonderful to re establish this experience.
