Year 8 - GROW Program

The Year 8 students are to be congratulated on their wonderful start to 2023. All students have quickly settled into the Tower Building, quickly forming wonderful relationships with their new Mentors and with their peers.

The Year 8 Key Themes are Respect, Work Ethic and Organisation. These are very much interrelated and will arise from the excellent structures and routines the students are developing in their first few weeks back at school.

All students are encouraged and challenged to be curious, creative and critical thinkers; always working towards their personal best. Getting the small things right, such as appearance, language, and behaviour, both at school and in the wider community, will help prepare the students for their future schooling years and for life!

During the GROW program, homerooms created their own class Mission Statement and a set of class rules. These should ensure that every student can approach every learning opportunity in a safe and supportive environment.

On Tuesday, the students enjoyed their first excursion for 2023. Based on the novel ‘Runner’, which is our set text in English for Term 1, the students participated enthusiastically in a walking tour of Richmond, taking in the sights that author Robert Newton included in his novel including the location of notorious gangster Squizzy Taylor’s family home.

As the new Year 8 Coordinator for 2023, it was wonderful to meet many parents at the Year 8 Information Night. Thank you for your support of your son’s mentors and subject teachers.
