Sports Report

Maybe life isn’t about avoiding the bruises. Maybe it’s about collecting the scars to prove we showed up for it Jim Kwik

The last two weeks have seen many events in the sporting landscape of the College. Year 7 & 8 trials have continued, ACC Athletics Championships have been run, Swimming sessions have continued at Harold Holt in the early mornings and our Term 1 Senior teams seasons began to wind down.

The Senior Cricket side endured a tough 2023 season, which was a similar story for our Senior Volleyballers. As their season conclude despite not registering a win the students who represented De La Salle did so with a firm commitment and never gave up. The lessons learnt whilst tough will undoubtedly provide the young men with confidence in their individual and collective strength to remain focused on the goal. Our two other Senior sides, Senior Tennis and our Senior T20 team have both qualified for their Semi-finals. Our cricketers have earnt a home semi-final against Whitefriars and our tennis players will contest the semi-final at Whitefriars away. We wish them the very best of luck.

Thank you for all the feedback and questions received from students and families surrounding the College’s High Performance Sports program. An information video regarding the High Performance program and how your son can be involved will be available to view on the ACC Sport Ollie Page from 16 March 2023. This will provide students and families information on the various sports offered for the 2023 calendar year.  We have been able to secure some fantastic coaches who will be able to support your son on their sporting journey.

Results for the last two rounds.

Round Four

Senior Cricket
In Round 4 the DLS First XI made the trip to Whitefriars. DLS were sent into bat and progressed steadily to 2/50 after 14 overs. A mid-order collapse led to a perilous 6/54. Angus Kenny and Noah Caruso put their heads down, firstly defending staunchly and then flourishing in a 35 run partnership. Some late hitting from Kenny and James McLisky lifted the total to 7/112 after 35 overs. The DLS bowlers toiled manfully on the flat wicket in the heat but defending the small score proved too much with Whitefriars comfortably achieving their target.

DLS 7/112 (35 overs) def by Whitefriars 1/113 (27 overs)

Round Five

Senior Cricket
The First XI cricket team made the road trip to St Joseph's College Geelong. Yet again the pitch was soft and slow offering plenty of assistance to the bowlers. SJC compiled 9/135 from their 35 overs as a result of a superb contribution from all bowlers and fielders. Wickets were shared around with two each to Will McCormack, Henry Docherty and Joey Fisicaro. Nathan Kennedy's legspinners picked up one wicket as did Jack Ryan and Angus Gill. Brilliant catches were taken by Will McCormack, Liam Stacey and Lachie Grey with the best being Luke Healy standing up to the stumps taking an edge from the medium pacer. DLS started the chase brightly with a 33 opening run partnership between Angus Kenny and Luke Healy. Further solid contributions from Jack Ryan and Will McCormack put DLS in a strong position at 2/70. However, as "they" say "cricket is a funny game". In the blink of an eye, wickets tumbled quickly and DLS were all out for 80.
- Final result -
DLS 80 defeated by SJC 9/134
