Social Justice
Last week's Voice Forum in the Higgins electorate was an historic moment in the build-up to an Australian Referendum on an Indigenous Voice to Parliament. De La Salle College was well-represented by three fine student leaders: Ethan Chau, Angus Gill and Aidan Stewart, supported by Paul Roberts and Patrizia Ferrara.
There was a real sense of passion in the audience for an outcome that Indigenous Australians deserve; a constitutionally enshrined Voice that can finally start to close the gap.
Ethan: This Voice Forum was an amazing opportunity for us to make a difference and was a fantastic insight into a step we can take towards incorporating First Nation beliefs into our government.
Angus: The Voice Forum was a great opportunity to learn about this vote and how the Indigenous people have been treated in Parliament and in day-to-day life.
Aidan: The Voice Forum shared a different view on Australia's history and demonstrated how we can make change now. Was a great experience that I can take with me through life.
This is a key step towards reconciliation.
