Geography
A day in the life of a Geographer
|
Year 10 and Year 11 Geography students have recently conducted their fieldwork expeditions to Docklands and Kinglake this month. Our Year 10s are in the process of exploring the urban renewal and environmental change of Docklands going from an industrial dock to a vibrant and modern commercial and residential hub. Students collected data that would either support or dispute whether government planner aims have been achieved to make Docklands a well-connected, appealing location that celebrates its maritime heritage by 2022.

Our Year 11s investigate the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires. They specifically focus on identifying and evaluating factors affecting the bushfire risk level in the Kinglake region, they assess how responses to the hazard could potentially compound the risk level, and explore the social, economic and environmental impacts of the bushfires. Next on our agenda is our Year 8 Geography fieldwork trip to Brighton Beach – stay tuned!
