Primary Wellbeing Day: Be Your Own Hero

At the end of Term 2 all Year 5 and 6 students undertook a Primary Wellbeing Day. The theme for the day was ‘Be Your Own Hero’. The day included a yoga class that concentrated on movement, strength and breathing. Students also listened to published author Reuben Cullen who wrote “A Hero Born”. The students completed their VIA strength test and used the Smiling Mind app to become more mindful. Kit Saville of Year 6 wrote, “The yoga was a great experience as it was so calm”. Jack O’Callaghan from Year 6 told us he “loved the author and doing different stuff and not normal work during the day”.

Many thanks to the Primary team who organised the day. It was terrific to see all the students engage in the workshops, try new things, and extend their knowledge about themselves and who they want to become.

Students are encouraged to bring up to $20 on the day so they can purchase gifts for their mothers!

Classwork and Home Learning

All Years 5 and 6 students are reminded that fortnightly home learning will continue to be set for them during Term 2. Primary staff have created a clear focus on reading and spelling to improve the students’ literacy proficiency, number facts and fluency in numeracy. Literacy teachers will continue to correct all students’ work to provide regular feedback and this will continue throughout the year to assist all students and their progression in our Primary School. Students who have not completed the required home learning will be expected to complete a study session. These are held on Wednesday afternoons from 3:15pm to 4:00pm.

In Term 2, our classwork themes are effort, presentation and completion. We want all students to provide maximum effort in their subjects. Students must ensure they have a charged laptop and on time to every class during the school day. Students also need to complete all their work and present it neatly. Students are reminded to bring the right stationery to every class to enable them to complete the work that the teacher has set.

Melbourne Explorer Excursion

As part of Inquiry learning, students will undertake a Melbourne Explorer Walk on Thursday 18 May in the Melbourne CBD. Students will come to school as normal on the day and then travel to the city on public transport. They will be supervised by the Primary staff on their journey and throughout the excursion.
