Faith and Mission

Welcome back to 2021! And to all our new students, families and staff, may your time with us at
De La Salle College be positive and provide you with an experience that is welcoming and full of the family spirit that the De La Salle community is known for.

Many in our community would know, the term Lasallian is used to describe a person who is fulfilling the mission set forth by St John Baptist de La Salle. And being Lasallian, can also be lived out by allowing yourself to be guided by the Five Core Lasallian Principles; Faith in the Presence of God, Concern for the Poor & Social Justice, Respect for all Persons, Quality Education and Inclusive Community.

This year, the Lasallian Core Principle of ‘Social Justice’ has been chosen as our 2021 College theme. The accompanying quote is “Committed to the cause of social justice, equity and the defense of the rights of children” taken from the new Declaration on the Lasallian Educational Mission (p110).

It is most fitting, that the principal of Social Justice is chosen in 2021 as the world comes out of the turmoil of 2020 and continues to experience the trauma of COVID-19.

It recognises our deep aspirations as Lasallians and helps us to remember how fortunate we are, how important it is to always think of the vulnerable and through all our social justice efforts, such as Mission Action Day, our House Charities and our broader College Social Justice initiatives, to always support those who live on the margins.

By doing this, we reflect and create a future for all that is filled with hope, while living in the present moment and whilst remembering we are always in the holy presence of God.
