Holy Eucharist Campus Year 9
As the nationwide initiative Health and Physical Education Day falls on 1 September, it is timely to share some of the Year 9 Physical Education curriculum.
At Year 9, the Health and Physical Education curriculum is termed Discovery. Like many experiential subjects, Discovery has been hampered by remote learning circumstances. However, this has not stopped our Year 9 students being heavily engaged in planning, performing, refining, recording and reflecting on their physical movement patterns.
A required skill of the Victorian Curriculum is for students to be able evaluate their own movement compositions. In an activity of their choice, students were asked to highlight their own technical strengths and deficiencies. It is well documented that learning is deemed most effective when experiences are followed by rigorous self-reflection.
Students remain encouraged to meet the daily recommended NPAG guidelines for physical activity and get 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity per day. After all, now more than ever, a healthy body equals a healthy mind.
