Holy Eucharist Campus Year 9

Introducing another innovation at Year 9.

The WISE concept is a customised program that meets the intended Year 9 mission of promoting independence and resilience. The WISE Award will provide recognition for commitment, challenge and progressive improvement of self.

The intention of the WISE program is to engage and empower our young men through active participation. It encourages students to not only lead their own learning but to ultimately capitalize on it.

WISE stands for Wellbeing, Independence, Service and Expedition.
  • Wellbeing emerges through a 10 week goal-orientated Discovery (Health /Physical Education) task that challenges students to achieve a sustained improvement in their health.
  • Independence equips students with life-skills relevant to living in the 21st century. Skills that are often taken for granted. Students work through a series of rotations through rooms of the house. For example: in the laundry, students will learn how to iron a shirt; in the study, they will learn how to develop a CV; in the garage, they will learn how to change a tyre; and in the shed, they will learn to use basic power tools.
  • Service encapsulates the mission ‘to walk along God's Path’. Later this year students will be challenged to think about how they might make a difference within community. Providing voluntary service in their own time is a most noteworthy learning experience.
  • Expedition brings an overnight trek along a peninsula or rural space to life. This 40km expedition will be suitably challenging and look to foster cooperation, teamwork
    and resilience.
The WISE Award will add a competitive element that invites students to strive for the highest level of completion within an academic year. As such, two distinct levels will exist within the WISE Award, Silver and Gold.
