The Principal's Report

As the final days for the Year 12, 2022 cohort unwind, it is difficult to believe the end of their formal schooling is so close. It seems no time since they arrived in Term 1 for what we predicted (accurately, thank goodness) would be their first full year onsite since Year 9, 2019.

As ever, the Year 12 graduating class have proven themselves to be terrific young men, Lasallians of character and empathy. It has been a privilege to get to know so many of them over the journey (including several who began in Year 4, 2014 – the same day I began at De La Salle!) Just seeing them around the yard, getting to know some a little better through Sport, Music, Drama or their leadership roles and observing their development has made for a terrific year.

However, it is critical the students now finish the year well. I spoke to the cohort at an assembly last week, with several simple yet crucial messages to bear in mind for their final days at the College.
  • Ensure they take every precaution to keep themselves and their friends safe. There have been examples of end of year celebrations and pranks resulting in tragedy in other schools and we would all dearly love to avoid that at De La Salle.
  • Avoid any activity which results in damage to property – school or public domain.
  • Think carefully about how their actions may reflect on their reputation and that of the College.
  • De La Salle Year 12s have established an outstanding tradition of finishing their year well, enjoying their final days with the normal fun and frivolity, but doing so responsibly. Leaving with a positive impression and legacy is important for all.
  • The Year 12 Graduation Breakfast, Farewell Assembly, Celebration Day then Valedictory Mass and Dinner are significant and meaningful milestones for our graduates. It is my hope and expectation that all involved attend and enjoy in the appropriate manner and walk away with terrific and positive memories of their final days at the College. It would indeed be a pity if any individuals jeopardised this.
The Year 12s by and large used the trial exams process very productively and continue to prepare well for the VCAA exams beginning on 26 October. We wish all the students luck and look forward to sharing with them the final days of what is a wonderful cohort of Lasallians ready to move on and make their mark on the world.
